Diesel Mechanic

Repairs and maintains diesel engines used to power machines, trucks, electric generators, and construction machinery, using hand tools, precision measuring instruments and machine tools. Diagnoses trouble, disassembles engines and examines parts for defects and excessive wear. Reconditions and replaces parts, such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves and bushings, using engine lathes, hand tools and precision measuring instruments.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 5 years experience as a Diesel Mechanic


Driver

Operate vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, dry vans and end dumps. Drivers load waste chemicals into vacuum trucks or roll-off trucks and transport the loads to various disposal sites. Approximately 80 percent of the required driving is intrastate and the remaining 20 percent is interstate. Clean up chemical spills and clean tanks containing chemicals. Manifest hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams for transportation. Drivers are on-call and available to respond 24 hours a day to chemical spills and are on-call every other weekend.

Qualifications

  • California Commercial Class A Driver License with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement and Tanker Endorsement
  • Have a current Medical Card
  • Have at least 2 years of experience as a Commercial Class A driver
  • Have a current HAZWOPER Certification (OSHA 1910.120 Operational Hazmat Technician 40-Hour Training or 8-hour annual refresher)
  • Must have and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
  • Must be able to read and speak English
  • Have transportation available to company terminal 24 hours a day and must be accessible by phone 24 hours a day
  • Pass a road test
  • Pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen


Hazmat Technician

Clean up chemical spills, clean underground and above ground storage tanks, manholes and pump houses under confined space procedures. Lab Pack and bulk package waste chemicals in containers for proper disposal. May inspect and clean storm drain filters, storm drain catch basins and lines and all varieties of structural BMPs (pump houses, Continuous Deflection Separation aka "CDS" Units, Storm Ceptors, Vortex Units, compost filters and sand filters) under confined space procedures as applicable. Must ensure that the manifesting, packaging, labeling as well as transporting of waste is completed properly. Operation of Vactron, small dump truck, small and large stakebed trucks, forklift, pressure washer and other pieces of equipment. Technicians are on-call every other weekend.

Qualifications

  • California Commercial Class C Driver License with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement

Essential Physical Functions

  • Standing and walking is required 90 percent of the work shift on even and uneven surfaces
  • Lifting from 10 pounds to a maximum of 60 pounds (intermittently) is required approximately 10 to 15 times per shift
  • Climbing and or crawling is occasionally required over a distance of approximately 5 to 30 feet through openings ≥ 24 inches in diameter (e.g. manholes, storm drain pipes, tanks, other confined spaces)
  • Bending and stooping is required 30 percent of the work shift from slight to 90 degrees
  • Crouching and crawling is required occasionally during cleaning operations
